Building Commissioning Technician (Any Office)

We're in search of a proficient Building Commissioning Technician to join our team. As a key player in this role, you'll be pivotal in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of building systems and equipment. Your responsibilities will entail conducting comprehensive inspections, testing, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems to confirm their performance and adherence to design specifications and industry standards. Your Contribution

  • Perform comprehensive commissioning activities for new construction, renovation, and retrofit projects, including HVAC, lighting, fire protection, and control systems.
  • Conduct functional performance testing of MEP systems to verify proper operation, sequence of operations, and integration with building automation systems.
  • Collaborate with project teams, including architects, engineers, contractors, and facility owners, to develop commissioning plans and ensure alignment with project goals and objectives.
  • Review design documentation, specifications, and equipment submittals to identify commissioning requirements and potential issues.
  • Prepare and execute commissioning test procedures and protocols, documenting test results, observations, and discrepancies for inclusion in commissioning reports.
  • Identify and troubleshoot system deficiencies, recommend corrective actions and oversee their implementation to ensure compliance with design intent and industry standards.
  • Provide training and technical support to building operators and maintenance staff on the operation and maintenance of MEP systems and equipment.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of energy conservation measures and sustainable building practices to optimize building performance and reduce energy consumption.
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to building commissioning, sustainability, and energy efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including commissioning plans, reports, and records, in accordance with organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current on industry standards, codes, and best practices related to commissioning.

Your Qualifications

  • Associate degree or equivalent technical training in mechanical engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in building commissioning, HVAC systems testing and balancing, or related field.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems, and their integration with building automation systems.
  • Familiarity with commissioning standards and guidelines, such as ASHRAE Guideline 0, ASHRAE Standard 202, and LEED commissioning requirements.
  • Proficiency in commissioning tools and equipment, such as airflow meters, pressure gauges, temperature sensors, and data loggers.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Professional certifications, such as Certified Commissioning Professional (CCP), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), or LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), are preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
  • Travel requirements: 20-30% travel.
